Because this discussion was inevitable.
Unless this has been done before, but still its a topical subject, and really its best to have an entire thread of focused on this discussion instead of it popping up here and there in other places.
Now when it comes to the idea of a gay Power Ranger, people are all over the place, with responses raging from yes to no to why and to who cares? Why and who cares are different things FYI. Why as in just not getting the reason someone would want for something to happen, and who cares doesnt care either way.
Now there are multiple reasons to why someone would say any of these responses. With a no, it could be I think homosexuality is wrong to romance shouldnt even be in children shows and there is no point. And personally if I had to side with any of these no variations, it would be the no romance in kid shows one.
And to help explain to people who think it does nothing for a character in a show if theyre just said to be gay, Id agree with you, but its really for diversity. And to those people who says being gay isnt diversity. Only race is diversity! Then you really need to search that word up again. Back to my point, the reason I say it adds to diversity is because it does since there never has been a homosexual PR before, and that you can add character to someone who is gay.
The gay part isnt the focus of the character, just a thing. If its just casually accepted and stated, then it teaches kids that its not all that big of a deal or a bad thing without it being hammered on their heads like a badly done environmental message. Hell, if they want to make an episode about the characters homosexuality, then they can go for a prejudice is wrong episode. Sure those have been done many a time for many a type of people (gender, race, religion) and it may just turn the character into a statistic, but there isnt a lot of kids shows (if any) that have homosexual characters and teaches them that homosexuality is not evil or to be made fun of. And Im sure Judd Lynn can handle and write an episode like that if Power Rangers lasts past 2016 and if hes still running it.
And no, Im not the type of person who will say THERE NEEDS TO BE A GAY CHARACTER IN POWER RANGERS NOW! NOW! NOW! OR ELSE PR IS TOTALLY HOMOPHOBIC!! Those types of people I find to be really annoying, sometimes even worse than the people who are arrogant to the subject on homosexuality and vocally oppose it. (Ignorant being does not know, arrogant being does not care to know)
Really I dont care if they ever do, but I am open to the idea and think it should happen at least once, and I just see it as a possibility in the future that they will tackle the subject. Plus Power Rangers has had a ton of romances in the past and still do now, so its not like PR is against the idea of romance.
I dont know what will happen in the future if they do pull that trigger, but Ill like to hear what you people think about it. Im sure you know how I feel about the subject now, and it would be great if you elaborate your reasoning too, because not every yes or no is going to be the same reason on why you say yes or no.
I would have said no flame wars please but a flame war is inevitable to happen.
