Hello, I have been having simple partial seizures for about ten years now. We only recently diagnosed them as seizures, as before we thought they were mere anxiety attacks since they happened so infrequently (like once a year) and also because I've always struggled with stress/anxiety.
My simple partial seizures are like this: I get an overwhelming sense of deja vu sometimes triggered by a smell I can't quite place, I can't talk yet I'm somewhat aware of what's going on around me, and it usually last for about 20 seconds. They also happened during my sleep, where I would wake up in the morning feeling very disoriented, lasting all throughout the day. I would wake up with a cut in my lip from biting it during the episode, and there have been a few times when I've woken up on the floor. Also, one night my mom heard me talking and sitting up in bed, and when I woke up the following morning, I had the same disoriented feeling (but I have absolutely no recollection of sitting up and talking during the night as she witnessed).
My doctor prescribed me Lamictal. I no longer have seizures during the day or during my sleep.
However, now they only occur when I'm lying down. Within 20 minutes of getting into bed, I get the overwhelming sense of deja vu, along with chills and/or a familiar scent that's a part of the whole deja vu feeling. It happens every single time I lay down, it doesn't matter if it's during the day or night. When I was even flying in an airplane, I set my seat back as far as it would go and tried to rest, and I still had a seizure.
I told my doctor, and he said that this is very, very unusual. I don't think he's ever seen this before. So he just now prescribed me an additional medication to Lamotrigine. I am on no other medication of any sort.
Anyone ever heard of this?
