Ranger Training Log RP

I had this idea this morning as I packed my briefcase. I decided to buckle down and get back into shape, and as I was putting my running shorts in so I could run during my work break, I was thinking of some techniques to keep myself going. I thought about perhaps restarting my thread at Bodybuilding.com, but had another idea: use it as a part of a fan fiction. I have a lot of ideas for my Ranger War character, JB, including bringing him in temporarily to some of my future (quite a ways in the future, actually) stories. I want to use this thread as my training log, but use JB as my "character". I hope that this thread will not only keep me honest in my work outs, since I have been lazy this last year, but also serve as an inspiration to others to either continue working hard, get back into shape, or get into shape for the first time!

These posts will not have any direct impact on The Ranger War and will serve as a story for JB and anyone else wanting to post their workouts, day by day. It will serve as a fun writing exercise, while being a motivator! We can then compare and contrast work outs, get ideas, and maybe import our characters into The Ranger War (since this will occur in a gym in Toku for the most part) or any other fan fiction you may have. ;)

As a sidenote: I did not work out yesterday (Monday) but went heavy on weights over the weekend, so that is my real life explanation for taking it light today (Tuesday).

JB walked down from off the hill he had found himself. He knew it would be a while until he got to the city he had seen in the distance. He was glad he was in decent shape, but he didn't look like it: the food back at base was amazing, and although he worked out casually, he didn't control himself. Before he knew it, he went from a lean 170 lbs. to his current 205. All of that in a span of 19 months.

He looked around at the forest in which he found himself. He didn't know this land, or what sort of threats he would find. He looked at his gut. He sighed as he remembered the six pack he had once sported. He knew he would need to be in top shape if he was to survive this rough terrain.

Well, I guess I can do bodyweight exercises... He thought. He slipped into a small trench he saw to his side. Time for push-ups...

He decided on an arbitrary number: 30 push-ups, 3 sets. His hand got covered in dirt as he assumed the position. He felt his muscles bunching, then releasing with every press. Concentration on form was present for each rep. He waited a couple of minutes in between each set. His triceps were burning at the end of the second set.

JB looked at the water bottle strapped to his belt. He was glad he had it on his work belt before the incident bringing him to this current situation. He sipped a little, knowing he may need it later on, unsure when he would find water again. He then approached the final thirty. His triceps felt like coiled cobras, uncoiling with each motion. They burned. Once he reached 20, he didn't think he would make it. Each push was tough. ...29... He went down and started feeling "stuck" on 30. Push yourself! and with a grunt, he pulled off the feat.

He climbed out of the trench, only the moonlight shining around him. He found a branch, and, slipping his gloves on from one of his jumpsuit's pouches, began to do pull-ups. His first three sets had 10 reps each, palms toward his body. His biceps felt nice and swollen as he finished his third set.

JB decided to work on his core strength next. He did a set of bodyweight single leg deadlifts, which consisted of leaning forward, keeping a straight back, and bending to have his trunk parallel to the ground, hands outstretched to the side, while his opposite leg reached behind him. He did 15 reps for each leg.

Focusing on hi calves, he performed one set of calf raises, with his feet positioned so the his calcanous dipped into the trench in which he had performed push-ups. He did 40 reps, then 40 more with his heels together (this made his feet make a v-shape), and then 20 reps for each leg individually, with no rests in between.

To work his quadriceps, he did an exercise he learned years prior, but had forgotten it's name. JB held onto, with one arm outstretched, the trunk of the tree he had been using and, standing on the pads of his feet, bent his knees so his trunk would bend backward. He could feel the quadriceps being worked. He did three sets of 12 reps.

To finish up, JB leaned up against the tree and performed a wall sit. He did 3 sets, each consisting of one minute.

JB wiped his gloves on the dirt, leaving some sap behind. He looked forward, slipping the gloves into his jumpsuit. Although I can morpher into a ranger, I need to be fit. Yes, I slim down and gain super strength as a ranger, but it is working off of me as a baseline. If my civilian state is improved, invariably my Ranger mode will improve. Plus, I will be healthier and have a better quality of life!

JB made a goal for himself to get down to 175 pounds by August 1st. He then ran toward the city. He kept good pacing, sprinting for the last minute. He wished he had his heart rate monitor on him. He felt great after his 30 minute run. He ran around four miles in that time, though he wished he knew exactly how far.

He then walked into the city...

Unless something odd happens, I should be working with weights in my gym in two days, so then I will introduce my character to the gym setting. :) Remember: don't do more than you are able. Consult your doctor before beginning a new routine. Eat healthy and have fun!
