Yes, I am doing Masked Rider, starting with the "A Friend In Need" 3-parter from Mighty Morphin'. I figured, start there to recapture the original expectations going into this based what every dumb kid at the time thought they were getting.
Will I laugh? Will I cry? Only time will tell.

Okay, to be totally honest here, I have some colleagues on other forums who cite this show as a guilty pleasure of theirs. Part of me wants to see why.
I, however, honestly remember being kinda let down by it as a kid. Guess I was expecting something more epic I guess. Hell, the one time I saw Dragon Knight on TV, my (former. Going on 5 years clean) weeabo mind translated Kamen and that put me off of the show.
But I do, however, remember having a Masked Rider Super Gold toy as a kid that was my favorite action figure. The upcoming Robo Rider figurarts is kinda tormenting me with it's nostalgic allure. There must have been something I liked. That's the other reason I'm doing this.
Or perhaps I just really, really liked the suit. Super Gold did serve under Optimus Prime on the end-table spaceship alongside my other robot toys...
And people say kid's won't pick up Super Megaforce being pirates.

Okay, let's go through that promo.
* "A new project from Saban, which has the best elements of fantasy and adventure from Power Rangers."
And yet the footage is going to be older than a chunk of the target audience, let alone the Kakuranger footage PR was currently using.
* "But distinctly different from Power Rangers in concept and characters."
...I'm confused. Are you trying to sell us a PR clone or not?
* "We think we have something new and special."
...must resist. Must fight cheap shot. Must not give in. Must not...
It's special alright.

And again, how new can it be when the footage is that old?

Take a shot whenever the cartoon of Edenoi is shown.
*I think Dex got lost at the planetarium to see Gandolf the Green.
* "On Earth, you will live 2 lives."
Actually three. One is a Superman expy, the other is part-time Kotaro Minami, and the other is a guy in a bug suit.

Take a drink whenever someone says Masked Rider outside of the opening credits.
* Stop motion monster! I freaking love stop motion.
* Masked Rider Drinking Game, Rule 2
Take a drink whenever the vehicles talk and ask yourself "why?"
* Dex does Elvis... You know, I'd be okay he ended up being an Elvis impersonation.
* "With the help of his human family"
Does Dex look like Bob Saget in this shot to anyone else?
* "Unbelievable Special Effects"
To be fair, the first part of ZO looked pretty impressive and holds up to this day.
* "A compliment to Power Rangers, but more of a situation comedy."
...You really want to sell it being like Power Rangers, don't you?
