I am looking for information/opinions/advice. My adult son has been trying to get enough clean time in order to get the vivitrol shot. Unfortunately he has had a couple of slip ups. Last Wednesday around 3 pm he took 60 mg of oxycontin and then Thursday night around midnight he did it again. Very upset with himself he put to gather a chart of the half life of what he took and yesterday at 10 took 1/4 of a 50 mg naltrexone to see if he would have a precipitous withdrawals. He did, he's doing pretty bad this morning. My question is he has a doctor's appointment at 4 pm tomorrow for the vivitrol shot. Assuming his withdrawals subside is taking the shot tomorrow viable?
FYI this is his idea, not ours. He desperately wants to get clean. We are providing him a safe place to detox. He told us that given that he only took 60 mg of oxycontin, based on the half life schedule of the drug he what he had in his system was minute enough that he thought he could take a low dose of Naltrexone in preparation for the Vivitrol shot Monday. Well the precipitated withdrawals hit about an hour and a half of taking a quarter of a 50 mg Naltrexone, so he's been sick for about 9 hours now.
