[TOKU] Question about Japanese culture

Hey guys. First of all, I'm kinda new here. Little new to Sentai. Grew up watching PR. I have been working my way through Gokaiger and LOVE it. My question pertains to things I have noticed while watching. I don't know much about Japanese culture, so why is some of the dialogue spoken in English? I noticed Luka particularly says stuff in English a lot. And stuff like finishing moves, or "Gokai change". Barizorg saying "yes, boss", etc.



Also, if you all can recommend some other Sentai series that are good for beginners I'd appreciate it!

I am not sure if there is a thread like this but if not there needs to be .



This thread will be a place for all of us normal users on this forum to give our thanks to the Owners mods and over all everyone that helps this forum stay up .



I for one would like to say thank you for having a mostly family friendly website for fans of power rangers young and old to come together and talk about all things that we love and enjoy and I thank you for keeping a eye on things that shouldnt be on here . It is a relief to actually see rules being enforced somewhere .

[EPISODE DISCUSSION] Mission to Secret City (The reason I'm so amped for Dino Charge)

Okay, so earlier today, I decided to watch a random episode of Power Rangers, and since I have been on a cherry picking Turbo kick lately (please watch beware the third wish saga, loved it) I decided to move onto In Space. I have always liked In Space, but I always seem to cherry pick certain episodes in the Saban era of Power Rangers due to most of them being episodic by nature, and in my opinion, the Saban era has great moments, but also have varying degrees in quality throughout individual season runs.



Upon watching Mission to Secret City, I was reminded of why some of In Space's individual episodes hold some of the highest spots in my top episodes. It had everything that is lacking of PR as of late. Being written by Judd Lynn, it also give me some reassurance that Dino Charge really could be a return to form in the franchise, something we all would agree would be a good thing.



The episode starts with the Ranger gang having Chinese Cuisine with Silvy, with a little character moment with Ashley and Andros. It was done subtly, with Ashley showing Andros how to use chopsticks while the other rangers are giving observant glances. I really liked the approach to Andros and Ashley's relationship, as it doesn't beat you over the head with "OMG SHIPPING" like the current Jake and Gia relationship, and it also adds confirmation through the other ranger's reactions.



Vacksacker shows up to capture civilians, and Andros, Carlos and Silvy are caught in the madness, being transported to Secret City. It's the small details I love in this episode, with Silvy's prior knowledge of Carlos being a ranger and deducing that Andros is one by observing the fight with his batttlizer being flung of his wrist. If it hadn't been for Silvy suggesting to use the 3 button and then later pushing it in secret, the Rangers might not have won the fight. It was also a slight chance of luck as well, as neither Silvy or the rangers knew the satellite was causing the morphing interference, let alone that the satellite was destroyed, meaning that it was all coincidental timing. For me, that little bit of tension made the episode feel very dire. The only real complaint I had was that when TJ and Cassie were hanging of the railing, I was thinking that they should have let go and morphed, having just destroyed the force field. One could say that they might not have deduced that the Satellite was the cause of the interference, so it was a chance that they couldn't take, but I digress.



Another thing I really loved about this episode was the three other rangers going incognito and bringing some artillery with them. It is very rare that we see the rangers act out espionage missions, and I loved when they do it. If I was writing the episode though, I would have added some light comedy with the three rangers, and have them or one of the rangers badly acting and running away like they are really in danger, only to have the other rangers laugh or comment at it. Missed opportunity maybe, as I tend to love the rangers most when they are unintentionally comedic but again, I digress. This was a moment we got to see the other three be proactive in rescuing, going in guns a blazing, and since they couldn't morph, it again added tension and broke the mold.



This is episode is one of the examples that we have that Dino Charge really might be a heralding of a new age of Power Ranger story telling, and I for one am looking forward to it. We also have a movie that is being written by the team that made X-Men: First Class, and has me very excited, including my family, who are not PR fans at all, but love these Transformer-like Hollywood re-imaginings. Feb can't come fast enough, and since the writing staff will be all in one place, I expect a lot of cohesion and story telling that make seasons like In Space and RPM so good. What are you guy's thoughts?

I then realized that at the tip of the blade, there is a deep (yet slim) cut/scratch. It is right in the middle, between the edge of the blade and the golden end piece.



It is definitely a quality control problem but... I am wondering if anyone else has this on theirs.



I paid $130 for it and am a huge fan so I want mine to be near perfect. If I find out that the majority of them are like this then I won't make an effort to hunt down another.

Hey gang,



Figured I'd post this as a separate thread for anybody interested.



I'm a professional photographer who will be attending the con for pretty much the entire weekend. I know a lot of you will be doing some pretty awesome ranger/sentai/toku themed cosplay, and I'd love to get some really great shots of that nature for my portfolio. Likewise, I'm sure some of you would like to have some professional level shots of the costumes that you put so much time, money and effort into.



To this end, I'd like to offer up my services, free of charge, to cosplayers at the con. This will be on a somewhat limited basis, simply due to time restraints. But it will be first come, first served. Shots will be done outdoors around the con, or at a nearby location if you happen to have something in mind, and will be a max of one hour in length. Saturday will be the day that I have the best availability, though I will have time Sunday and likely Friday as well.



As I do only have so much time, group shoots are both welcomed and encouraged. If you'd like to see my portfolio, just message me and I will reply with a link. I look forward to hopefully working with some of you.

[POWER RANGERS] morphers never used in PR

What sentai morpher that never got it's Power Rangers counterpart or was pre zyu would you assign to teams or individual ranger with original US morpher or no morphers at all.

Here's what i could think of-



Zeo gold should have got the king brace like it's supposed to be.



Instead of those plain sunglasses, JF could have used those doron changers from kakuranger and changed the kakuranger symbol to order of the claw symbol and instead of individual coins unleashing powers there would be void from which individual animal spirits would pop out.



What could you guys think of ?

Where have they all gone? :( I was really looking forward to seeing them...

First Timer from Chicago, IL!

Hey guys, some of you may know me on the boards frequenting the Merchandise forum... not as much as I used to admittedly but I'm still there daily, especially in this exciting time for collectors! PMC4 will be my first PMC and my first CONVENTION in general, so I'm really excited. I have a Gold Ranger Membership so I'll be able to enjoy most everything there!



Considering this is my first convention in general, I was just wondering if anyone had any tips for a first-time convention attendee. I definitely don't want to go severely underprepared because frankly, I don't know what to expect!



Also, I've heard from people who attended SDCC this year that the Power Rangers exclusives (gold Dragon Dagger, metallic MMPR keys) were completely sold out in a matter of hours. Definitely purchasing as many exclusives as I can at PMC, whatever they may be (I definitely have my sights set on the Wolf/Titanium Ranger pack) but I heard that quantities are extremely limited. I heard people lined up at like, 3AM for the exclusives at SDCC, and I was wondering if I had any reason to worry about doing the same thing. I wouldn't mind if it came down to it but again, I just don't know what to expect.

[OT] When can you not separate the artist from the art?

Is there a writer/actor/director/etc. that you believe to be truly great at his or her craft, but that you simply can't stand because of some aspect of his or her personal life?



For me, it's Tom Cruise. The guy is entertaining as Hell and is a genuinely good actor, but the shilling he does for Scientology is a huge turn-off for me.

[POWER RANGERS] What was your first reaction to the Zeo change?

What the title says.



Do you remember that first time? What were your thoughts both as a kid and looking back as an adult now?



As for me, I thought it was a little weird at first but after seeing that Tommy, Adam, Rocky, Billy etc were still around aka characters who I care about then it made it easier and I eventually came around. Looking back as an adult and realizing that MMPR was probably running on fumes and was running out of useful Sentai footage I realize this was a good move.
