Personally, I can see why they kept them for so long. American superheroes may upgrade equipment and vehicles (see Batman and IronMan), but rarely do they completely change motifs and power sets altogether. Heck, when it does happen, it usually goes over horribly (see "Electric Superman"). Also, one of the things that have kept American superheros relevant is continuity. With that in mind, I think it was a smart business decision to keep the Zyu suits for MMPR season two. While the footage didn't always work, I think it changed enough to stay interesting, while keeping enough the same to cater to American sensibilities.
By season 3 though, I think it got ridiculous. While the Alien Ranger stuff was clever, I think it was super jarring to go from dino zords, to thunder zords transformed from dino zords, to ninjas. Nothing from zyuranger fit the motif anymore, and I think it was noticeable even to little kids. I mean, if Saban made me keep the zyu suits, I think I would have introduced the kakuranger suits as an upgrade instead of the "metalic armor."
What about you guys? Should they have just switched out the suits from the beginning of season 2? Should they have tried to keep them for even longer? What do you think?
