[EPISODE DISCUSSION] jaguarranger Pouncin' All Over Power Rangers

With credit to Kirito for the title and suggesting the idea in the first place. Call me a bandwagoner if you must, but I too will be sharing my thoughts on Power Rangers as I attempt to watch from the first episode of MMPR through Super Megaforce. Feel free to read, discuss, whatever.

Day of the Dumpster

-It really is amazing how much chemistry the original actors had with each other onscreen, and it shows even at the very beginning.

-I have no experience with earthquakes, but I'm pretty sure running outside is the last thing you should do during one. A very early example of the overall stupidity of the citizens of Angel Grove.

-Overall this episode was a great, fast-paced way to start the franchise. It introduced the heroes, the villains, supporting characters, and summed up the general premise of the show.

- Why did Goldar run when the Megazord got the Power Sword?

Food Fight

-I was confused as to why Netflix had this second, but according to Wikipedia this was actually the second episode aired. I never knew that.

-In retrospect this was a pretty damn brutal plan by Rita. Just imagine what it would have been like had Pudgy Pig succeeded. Mass starvation bringing about riots and wars and possible cannibalism. Although to be truly successful, Pudgy Pig would have also had to eaten every single animal on Earth, since those can be used for food. Also, I think Zordon's calculations of it eating all the food on Earth in 48 hours were inaccurate. That pig should have long since eaten every last crumb in Angel Grove. Though as Linkara has suggested, perhaps time works differently in Power Rangers and an hour in the PR universe is more than 60 minutes.

- Though things would have been brutal if Pudgy Pig had succeeded, I'm not really sure it ever had a chance. Given how smart Billy is and all the stuff he's capable of inventing, he could probably come up with a device to solve world hunger if he really wanted to.

High Five

-Another pretty brutal plan by Rita. Being trapped forever in a time warp probably isn't a lot of fun.

-Given Squatt and Baboo's general incompetence, how were they even able to build a time warp device, and why would Rita trust them with it? She's lucky they didn't accidentally trap the entire palace in it.

-Jason tells Zordon they need the Zords, plural, yet Zordon only sends the Tyrannosaurus. What a dick.

Teamwork

-Gee, Trini, maybe if you wanted the guys to go with you and Kimberly you shouldn't have waited until the last minute to ask them.

-So first Trini and Kimberly are fighting Goldar in the forest, then they're in the desert. Did they use footage from multiple eps of Zyuranger for this fight?

-Was it really necessary for Kimberly to flip over those garbage cans?

-Rita called the dump hers. Was this part of some plan? Had she been letting garbage build up at that exact spot over thousands of years or something? Or did she just take it over when no one was looking?

A Pressing Engagement

-For someone who owns a gym, Ernie's pretty heavyset. Why doesn't he use the machines he owns to try and shed some weight?

-Alpha's teddy bear is back!

-Why didn't Zordon contact Billy and Trini as well?

-An awesome Zord fight in this episode, the individual Zords battled, the Megazord's tank mode got used, and we got a much bigger taste of what it's capable of in battle mode. That part where they ducked under Goldar's Zord by shifting back to tank mode was incredibly nifty.

-I noticed a Green Ranger icon on the Megazord's control panel.

-Kimberly tells Zack "It's casual" when he tries to apologize for the skateboard incident. 90s lingo was weird.
