Unfortunately Star Trek 3's production was fast tracked and Roberto couldn't direct anymore.
Because Lionsgate and Saban Brands didn't know what Paramount's schedule for Star Trek was (which Roberto was contractually obliged to prioritise over Power Rangers) they held off announcing him as director. Not wanting to miss out on the possibilty of such an established name being involved in Power Rangers, they announced him as Executive Producer to keep him involved officially. It would have been his first feature film.
