The action series centers on Dick Grayson (probably best known for his alter ego as Robin), who emerges from the shadow of Batman to become Nightwing, the leader of a fearless band of new Super Heroes including Starfire, Raven and many others.” I would be negligent if I didn’t mention that Akiva Goldsman also wrote Batman Forever and Batman & Robin, the last live action appearances of Dick Grayson, but let’s not hold that against him. The fact that they named dropped Dick Grayson, Starfire and Raven means they are probably basing this show on the celebrated New Teen Titans series by Marv Wolfman and George Perez from the eighties, which was once DC Comics’ most popular title. That team was also the basis for the very popular Cartoon Network series that ran from 2003-2006, and currently lives on as Teen Titans Go! The Deadline article included a picture from the 1980s animated anti-drug PSA featuring the New Teen Titans characters, but I wouldn’t take it as an indication that’s the exact team line-up were are going to see. The Titans have a flying alien, a green dud who changes into green animals, a half robot guy, and a teleporting witch, so it’ll be a challenge to see how they plan on making this with a television budget.
