Ignore the show themselves (MMPR and Samurai), it is obvious the homages and quality were similar, and the fact of merchandising in the shows themselves, but I am talking the impact of Samurai on Saban Brands, Bandai, and the larger popular culture. I say this, because among my friends, we all joke that Jayden is a god, and will never go away. Obviously, that alone is not proof, but it is because of how Samurai gets treated that I feel this way.
It is not major things, but many little things that convince me of this.
By Bandai
(When i say Jayden, i do mean Samurai Red, just to shorthand it)
-Two Samurai Red ranger figures in the Super Megaforce line (Both Jayden, btw), and a Samurai Gold
-A Samurai zord armor toy designed like Jayden with a Jayden figure
-One of the more common key packs, that return as often as MMPR
-A Jayden figure in the 4 inch Super Megaforce line
-Shinken Oh getting re-released during Megaforce
-Many of the early Action Card game promotions and sets featured the Samurai Red Ranger with Megaforce Red
-The Samurai Red Ranger being the first ranger the kid morphs into in the commercials for the Legendary Morpher
By Saban Brands themselves
-Alex Heartman was the one promoting kids for Make-a-Wish at this year's PMC, not A Megaforce cast member
- In Super Megaforce, we have
Emily, Mike, Antonio and Mia in the last few episodes, the most of any PR cast for this season.
- In "Samurai Surprise", The way they treated Jayden was vastly over glorified. They spoke so in awe of him, and they all joked about how Gia liked him. I tried taking count of how many times they said "Jayden" in the episode but I lost count
-Reusing stock footage and music in Super Megaforce from Samurai (Not just the theme song)
-In "Super Megaforce" the first Legendary Ranger mode they do is Samurai, and the first legendary team you see on the cliff in the opening is Samurai.
-In many countries, the promos for Power Rangers on Nicktoons still heavily advertise Samurai, including the US
In larger popular culture:
-In the Macy's day parade for 2013, on one of the stations, the newscaster refered to the Megaforce rangers with Samurai cast names.
-TMZ talked to Najee De Tajee and thought he was the current blue ranger
-Celebrities who dress their kids up as power rangers for Halloween still had Samurai costumes for their kids last year
I know I can compile more baseless assumptions, but the point is that I notice that when people think of Power Rangers, it still is MMPR, but that is the older crowd. What do parents, and the younger generation remember? Do they still think Samurai is the only one that matters, like MMPR did for it's later Saban-Disney Seasons, or is Samurai just another season?
