Because the Samurai tribute got me interested in rewatching the most hated Power Ranger series of all time (at least until 2015) join me in a look back at Samurai .
Origins part 1
Mentor really wants to sleep with Jayden.
I know this aired as a finale for season 1 but using the Antonio opening is weird
So Octoroos gimmick is he likes to rhyme , except when he doesn't . Dayu is basically Daria and Xandres is the alcoholic disappointment child of Zedd and Rita (I deny the existence of Thrax) this seasons villains .
"You're pretty grumpy for a guy who is talented enough to talk with his mouth closed" Did Jeff Nimoy ghost write this episode?
Not sure if Kevin's dad is trying to sound stereotypically African or like a Samurai , but it's hilarious .
Mentor ruins Mike's cheeseburger . The first sign that mentor hates Mike.
So Mia is like a teacher's aide or does she just like to hang around playgrounds ?
I can understand why Emily would think the guy in blue is te Red Ranger because Emily is ....special, but why does Kevin think the guy wearing the Green jacket is the Red Ranger?
Jayden's idea of teamwork is swinging his big fire smasher around with no concern for almost hitting the Rangers and then taking Moogers out by himself .
Jayden takes Skirtface for a ride on his Fire Smasher something usually reserved for Antonio. Jayden is such a slut.
Yes let's have the black guy kneel before the mighty white guy . Whoops Saban Brands.
I like the idea of the folding zords , it was always awkward in Power Rangers that they always had these big ass robots hiding somewhere in the city who could travel to
their destinations in mere moments , so having pocket Zords is a neat idea.
Not sure why this is a two-parter.
Origins part 2
Mentor hates Mike
It's really irresponsible of the Rangers to let Emily wonder off by herself . Somebody call social services
Mentor may hate you, but I like you Mike
Bulk is back and he gets more screen time here than he'll get for the rest of the season .
How old is Spike suppose to be? I can't see Skull knocking up anyone prior to In Space , but mathematically that would mean Spike is like 13. Also Felix Ryan's poor mans Jason Narvy really makes one appreciate Jason Narvy .
It was nice of Emily to basically sum up her entire character
. Also Emily saying she didn't get the best grades makes me sad, I'm guessing she went to a backwoods school that couldn't accommodate her.
So Mike is basically Zack.
I'm going to have guess this wasn't originally intended to be a two-parter until Nick made them hold into the first two episodes to air as a one hour special later.
Final Thoughts: Not a bad way to start a series. The villains at this point aren't especially interesting but you get a better handle of them in the first episode than you ever did with the Warstar group in Megaforce. You have a basic idea of who the Rangers are. Not bad for a dub . A-
