Similar to how Samurai Surprise inspired Tensou92 to give Samurai another go, the episode A Lion's Alliance has made me want to watch Wild Force again.
Now, I'm coming from a different place with this than I was with the Revisiting Power Rangers RPM thread, as that was me seeing if the passage of time would improve my thoughts on it. I've never hated Wild Force. In fact, I've always liked it, so this is me seeing if it holds up 12 years later.
Lionheart
First thing's first: I absolutely adore Wild Force's theme song. It perhaps the catchiest of the bunch, and probably the one that takes the least to get stuck in my head.
As far as first episodes go, Lionheart is pretty unique, as it was the first to really begin In Media Res, dropping us, the audience, along with Cole into the middle of the action between the Power Rangers and the Orgs, something that would not be done again until Samurai, and not done intentionally since.
The first fight between the Power Rangers and Turbine Org was really something. No talking, or battle grunts of any kind; Just music and some sound effects. Did a great job of capturing the mood.
I both like and dislike the way Jindrax and Toxica were introduced. The whole animal lab jailbreak Cole did just seems a bit out of place, to me. In fact, if it weren't for one line of Jindrax that they stole the animals, it may have seemed like Cole was in the wrong.
Overall Grade: A
This episode really experimented with the Power Rangers episode one formula, by dropping us into the action the way it did, it created a mystery of what was going on, but also provided enough information that viewers aren't confused, and also get a better understanding of what's going on, such as there are Orgs, and there are also Duke Orgs, who only have one horn.
